How It Works

One clear starting point.

Every engagement begins the same way, whether you're planning ahead or already deep in it.

1. A conversation first

Call or email. You'll speak with Dr. Stoeckel directly — no intake staff — usually the same day. He'll tell you whether an evaluation makes sense for your situation. Sometimes the answer is that you need a different specialist first, and he'll say so and point you there.

2. The baseline evaluation

Cognitive Stewardship™ begins with a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation done in your home, at your pace. It measures memory, attention, processing speed, language, and everyday decision-making — using the same instruments used in academic medical centers, selected to detect change over time, not just problems today.

You receive a written report in plain language and a family meeting to walk through it: what's normal aging, what isn't, and what it means for the decisions in front of you. With your written authorization, your healthcare and other partners receive the report too, so everyone treating you is working from the same picture.

3. Continuing together — if it's right

Many families continue with Cognitive Stewardship™: regular visits that measure real change against your own baseline, plus steady access to Dr. Stoeckel between them — for the specialist appointment, the medication question, the family conversation that needs a third party in the room. He also coordinates directly with your attorney or financial advisor when a decision calls for it.

Stewardship runs in six-month terms. Six months is long enough to see a direction rather than a single point — one follow-up tells you very little; a half year of them tells you what's actually happening. In the final month of each term, you and Dr. Stoeckel sit down and decide together whether continuing makes sense. Nothing renews automatically.

What it costs

Published, so you know before you call. No insurance billing, no coding, no surprise second bill.

Baseline evaluation — $3,000, one time. The evaluation, the written report, and a meeting to walk through the results. This tells you where things stand today. What it can't tell you is which direction they're moving — that takes time and repeated measurement, which is what stewardship provides, along with the care plan, the coordination, and guidance at the decisions as they arrive. If you continue to stewardship within 90 days, this credits in full.

Cognitive Stewardship™ — $12,000 for six months. $9,000 if you've already done the baseline. Regular check-ins, a facilitated family meeting that remote family can join, guidance at the decision points as they come up, coordination with one professional partner, and a six-month review of what has actually changed.

Continuing — $12,000 per six months. Decided together at the end of each term.

Consultation — $500 per hour. This includes professionals who need cognitive expertise for a specific matter.

A family who does the baseline and continues through a full year spends about $24,000. A family who does the baseline alone spends $3,000. Most land somewhere between, and you decide at each step rather than at the beginning.

What this is not

Treasure Coast Cognition is a consultation practice. It does not replace your physicians, prescribe medication, or provide medical treatment. It works alongside your doctors — and often makes their job easier, because they get better data than a clinic visit can produce.
